Hi Everyone,
It’s with great pleasure to share with you our Regenerative Tides: Sailing for Solutions (ReTISS) Citizen Science Creative Residency dates and details. We are inviting artists, writers, filmmakers, musicians, designers, and other creative practitioners to take part in this week-long residency in coastal Brittany exploring the deep connections between people and the ocean.
October 3–10, 2025 — Plouhinec, Finistère (France)
Call for Applications
This residency blends creative practice with citizen science, field immersion, and environmental storytelling. Residents will contribute to our grassroots research on marine pollution from end-of-life boats while developing artistic responses that centre ecological care, lived experience, and ocean kinship.
Thematic Focus: Human–Ocean Kinship
Participants will explore themes of marine degradation, memory, regeneration, and interdependence, grounded in the local context of abandoned boats and fiberglass waste. Together, we will consider how creative work can shift narratives and support community-based environmental action.

What the Residency Offers
Shared accommodation in a seaside cottage in Plouhinec (Finistère), with time and space to focus on creative work individually or collaboratively
Home-cooked group meals provided most days, offering a convivial, shared atmosphere
Transport support, including transfers from Quimper train station or Brest Airport on arrival and departure days
Field visits and participation in hands-on data collection and creative inquiry related to marine pollution
A Randonnée Subaquatique (Guided Underwater Exploration) session guided by Léa Brassy—professional surfer and local experienced waterwoman—offering an embodied, underwater encounter with local marine flora and fauna
A visit to the Floating Stories Lab boat-building site, where a Polynesian-inspired wooden catamaran is under construction as a future mobile platform for storytelling and citizen science
Access to scientific storytelling tools, including handheld microscopes and project resources for field observation and creative development
Connection with an international network of creatives, scientists, citizen scientists, and coastal advocates
Visibility and dissemination through project documentation, the ReTISS public website, and potential future exhibitions or publications
What We’re Looking For
We welcome proposals from creative practitioners who are curious, community-minded, and interested in working at the intersection of environment, place, and storytelling. Previous experience with citizen science or environmental topics is not required.
This residency values diverse perspectives and is open to applicants of all genders, backgrounds, and disciplines.
