Wet Wood?!

New Video | Wharram Narai Mk IV Boat Build Series

Happy Friday everyone,

I had a blast editing the latest episode in our Boat Build Series. What a week it’s been! Not only have we had spectacular Spring temperatures but we have again made significant progress in the boat yard.

In this latest episode, we address our wet wood issue by building plywood drying racks, a wood drying chamber, and we tackle the task of scarfing ALL our movingui timber stringers and the starboard hull’s plywood backbone joins.

Next week we will be preparing for a special visit by Pascal Petit to begin epoxying the plywood! It’s then all hands on deck throughout April to ready all the backbone and bulkheads for assembly, ideally during our Boat Build Residency taking place in May.

Don’t forget to check out the Job List spreadsheet HERE; keep track of our progress or look up a job you might be interested in participating in—we accept volunteers all year around.

Speaking of volunteers, we could not be where we are without all of the help you’ve all put in so far. Most recently, Simone and Pascal Millot have been visiting the yard weekly and are always a text away from help when we need it. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU.

As Remy mentions in this week’s video, we are working seven days a week with the goal of getting this boat in the water by the European summer of 2028. Once we splash, we’ll set off on a circumnavigation for regenerative futures research, storytelling, and citizen science projects. Members will have priority to join legs of the voyage, so do consider joining our tribe. We have a behind-the-scenes WhatsApp group sharing real-time updates and opportunities.

Our members are also connecting with each other with is amazing to witness — two will shortly be crossing the Atlantic Ocean…stay tuned as I’m sure we’ll have news to share about their upcoming adventure!
